Inspiration from Hawaii

We were in Hawaii for a family celebration, and we had the chance to visit the Byodo‑In Temple in Kaneohe — a place that feels both peaceful and quietly immense. In their gift shop, I found three medallions — simple, weighty, and beautifully made. I picked them up with the idea of weaving them into a chainmaille necklace someday.

I love when materials carry a story. These medallions aren’t just components — they’re a memory of that visit, the quiet pond, the red beams of the temple, and the feeling of being surrounded by family. I’m not sure yet what the finished piece will look like, but I’m excited to let these medallions guide the design. Some materials ask you to slow down and listen.
